The Korean Wintergreen Boxwood shrub, Microphylla koreana, is also known as the liffleleaf boxwood. It is a broadleaf evergreen upright shrub with medium green to dark green foilage. It is a formal or tightly informal shrub, usually reserved for shady conditions and commonly used as a hedge, foundation planting, edger, or facer shrub.

Blue Forest Juniper, Juniperus sabina 'Blue Forest', is a distinctive groundcover-type evergreen that has very attractive silvery-blue foliage. The upright growing branches present the "look" of a miniature "blue forest". Looks great when planted above a boulder retaining wall. Maney Juniper, Juniperus chinensis 'Maneyi', is a semi-erect juniper that has an attractive blue cast to its foliage, along with gray-green berries in summer. Maney Juniper has a handsome appearance and is medium sized for any planting. It is a fast grower and has excellent cold tolerance. Requires a well drained soil in a sunny location, adaptable to different soil pH; tolerates fairly alkaline soils and prefers full sun to part shade. Taunton Spreading Yew, taxus x media 'Tauntoni', is a spreading evergreen that has short dark green needles and is very hardy. Taunton has a low graceful and lovely form, tolerant of summer heat, and excellent resistance to winter burn. It grows well in both sun or shade and is very popular as an accent, specimen, or foundation plant. It grows 3-4 tall and 4-6 feet wide. The Common Snowball Bush, Viburnum opulus, also called the European Cranberry bush produces white flowers in late spring. It is a deciduous thicket-forming Old World shrub. In the fall, the leaves turn a wonderful burgundy reddish-purple. About the same time, the bright red, attractive berries ripen, and persist on the plant throughout the winter. Have a snowball fight in June! Kids and adults alike love this rounded plant with masses of flowers. Grows best in full sun to partial shade.

Harry Lauder?s Walkingstick, Corylus avellana 'Contorta', is noted for its contorted, twisted growth, making it a real conversation piece when grown as a specimen plant. This unique deciduous shrub has interesting gnarled and twisted branches so it is often not grown primarily for its blooms but for this unusual branching pattern. Harry Lauder's Walkingstick has terrific yellow fall foliage color with showy greenish-yellow catkins (as on pussy willows) that brighten the winter scene. It does well in large containers and likes full sun. It is a slow grower to 8 to 10 feet tall and wide and prefers well drained soil in sun to part shade. The branches are valued for their use in flower arrangements.

The Japanese Willow, 'Salix Integra Flamingo', produces beautiful pink foliage all season long. The outer leaves turn a bright pink while the inner leaves are green and white. The Japanese Willow has 4 season interest. In the spring, before it leafs out, it produces hundreds of slender catkins that contrast brilliantly against the deep red stems. Then you see the pink summer foliage and in the fall and winter the striking red stems. You may prune the plant back for another flush of pink foliage later in the season. Regular pruning will promote a denser and bushier plant. Great as a container plant.

The Buttonbush, Cephalanthus occidentalis, is a rounded, 6 to 8 feet tall and occasionally reaqching 10 to 12 feet tall shrub. It is very open, almost gangly in habit. Flowers are creamy-white, on spherical heads, 1 to 1 1/4 inches long, blooming in late summer. It prefers moist situations, not dry tolerant, and best used for naturalizing in wet areas. Native from New Brunswick to Florida, west to Minnesota, Oklahoma and southern New Mexico, Arizona, California, into Mexico and Cuba.

The Dwarf Korean Lilac, Syringa meyeri 'palibin', is known as a compact but spreading, small-foliaged Lilac with showy late May lavender-purple flowers that are spread over the entire shrub canopy. It is the most common cultivar of the species, valued for its even more compact habit (to 4-6?). Meyeri is named after F.N. Meyer, who introduced this species to the United States from Northern China in the early 20th century. It is widely used as a foundation, group planting, informal or formal hedge, or specimen shrub.
